Lupo Verde DC Reviews – Read Before You Go

Lupo Verde restaurant

The other night my friend and I ate at Lupo Verde 14th Street in Washington DC.  Because the restaurant only opened a day or two before we got there, there were absolutely no Lupo Verde Reviews or anything anyone posted about Lupo Verde on 14th street online.

The decor looked awesome, I talked to the manager for a minute while he was outside and I was very excited to try them out.  I was definitely not disappointed with our meal, however I do have a couple of quick things you probably want to know before you eat at Lupo Verde on 14th street in DC.

Lupo Verde DC was amazing from the moment we walked in.  They were slightly disorganized but that was also because it was one of their first nights and they were slammed with people.  For being brand new and having full tables and a waiting list, they did an incredible job with offering drinks, smiling and helping us to feel welcome.  The hostess quickly found us a table in the front by the door, but there were 8 stools there which was odd.  That is the first thing I want to warn you about.

Although the food at this really fun Italian Restaurant is amazing, the chairs at the tables in the bar are very close together and there is barely any room.  I also hope you like strangers because as they fill up, you’re stuck sitting and rubbing up against one.  That was a huge turn off for me because I am very OCD and notice things like when people spit when they talk, noises like lip smacking set me off and when people (especially strangers) are stuck next to you where you have no room, this is a nightmare situation.  With the exception of planning ahead to make sure you have your own table, you are in for a treat with their food, but there are a couple other small things you need to know before you go.  Here is some of the food we had which helped us to both love and want to give Lupo Verde reviews that are all 4 out of 5 stars.  The reason it our reviews of Lupo Verde DC aren’t 5 out of 5 are the seating and some small food issues which they will definitely fix as they get settled and continue to make amazing Italian cuisine at Lupo Verde 14th street.

The first thing I ate at Lupo Verde was their amazing rosemary and tomatoe bread. This is a must have with their rosemary olive. Holy crap good! The next thing was something that I wouldn’t have normally ordered by my friend wanted to try. The fried artichokes from Lupo Verde DC.

These things were huge, fried and served with a delicious green sauce. The cool thing is that you can literally eat every piece of the artichoke and it all tastes amazing. The fried artichokes at Lupo Verde DC are a must have appetizer that is light, crispy and delicious. Get them if you go…everyone loved them including the people that were also at our table. Next time we go we are getting these and one of their cheese and meat specials instead of the muscles dish that you see below.

The triangular bread sandwich thing is the Lupo Verde muscles appetizer. The muscles aren’t what you’d expect which is what I really like. They are served on bread and with a ton of other stuff that I can’t actually say what it is. With everything else on the plate and all of the flavors you’d expect to not taste the muscles. The really cool thing about this dish at Lupo Verde 14th street is that the muscles are still the main flavor on it and everything else compliments them perfectly. It was amazing!

After these amazing appetizers it was time for dinner.  My pasta was homemade, perfectly cooked and everything else you’d expect from somewhere that is boutique, makes their own liqours and cordials and also tasted like everything was made from scratch.  Both of our dinners were perfect so I’m not including the pictures and just go and order them.  You’ll love them.  The one thing that came out gorgeous was the cappuccino at Lupo Verde DC.

My cappuccino tasted like watered down coffee with froth.  No espresso, no real coffee taste and not good at all.  They good their appetizers right, their breads amazing and their pastas perfect, but it was scary that an Italian restaurant that pays that much attention to detail would not service a good cappuccino was shocking.  It may have been a one time thing, but if you want a cappuccino after you finished amazing food at an Italian restaurant, they need to get it perfect.  Unfortunately Lupo Verde 14th fell flat, but I can almost guarantee it was a one time thing.  With everything else amazing, including the incredible dessert with fresh gelato (OMG you have to try their gelato!) this was a small flop and it shouldn’t discourage you from ordering one.

Overall Lupo Verde DC is amazing.  Our reviews of Lupo Verde 14th street are all positive and I highly recommend you eat there.  Feel free to leave a comment with what you thought of it after you go and feel free to share this post with them.  We loved Lupo Verde and will definitely be back!  Our Lupo Verde Reviews are all positive and we gave them 4 out of 5 stars.
