Staggs Leap Cellars “Karia”Chardonnay Review

The first time I had Karia by Staggs Leap I was at one of my favorite ramen restaurants here in DC, Chaplins.  They have incredible ramen soups and oddly enough a decent wine selection.  Between the High Flyer/Roller (I can’t remember which) Petite Sirah, the Decoy red blend and the “Karia” chardonnay from Staggs Leap Cellars, I was in heaven.  I was always excited to have the spicy ramen with the chardonnay so one day I decided to buy a bottle and bring it home.  That’s when it changed on me.

Riviera Chicken Pasta – OMG Yum! [recipe]

With summer coming I needed to make up a new pasta dish that is light, easy and tastes amazing.  I love, love, love the ocean, but I don’t like fish.  When I was in Italy and Greece on the riviera I feel in love with the non fish foods and instead focused on their flavors.  That’s how I came up with this recipe for Riviera chicken pasta.

It’s easy to make and insanely good.  Your guests, family or whoever eats it will be impressed and may even second guess if you bought it at a store instead of made it at home.

Sylla Sebaste Bussia Barolo 2010 Review

I love Barolos so when I saw the Sylla Sebaste Bussia Barolo 2010 on sale I had to buy and try it.  Barolos come from a small region in italy and have everything you love about italian foods in them.  Espresso flavors, dark fruits like plums and they can be medium bodies but taste lite or heavy on your palette.  That’s why I was excited to buy this one at the price I found it at.

My friend came over for drinks and movies which is when we decided to open it.  He hates white wines and had never had Barolo before which is why we went with this one.  So how was it?

Bordeaux Pessac-Leognan Chateau Mancedre 2012 Reviewed

Sorry I haven’t been updating the wine reviews as often.  I did just get back from a trip to Napa so I have some amazing new ones to share and a couple so-so options.  This Bordeaux came from the previous month so I have a short backlog of wines to review for you.

I opened this bottle on the night of the democratic debate before the NY primaries.  It was absolutely the perfect bottle to drink while I watched.  It has everything you could want and more while you drink and watch the debate.

This wine is a 60% Cabernet and 50% Merlot mix.  It gives a nice small bite but finishes smooth and washes down perfectly.  You can drink it with dinner and carry it over to watch tv or talk with friends, but I don’t recommend starting with it if you haven’t had something peppery or meaty to start your pallet.

Nugan Estates Petit Sirah Review

The other day I was making a korean bbq shortrib for a friend and he asked what wine to bring.  I told him either a Petit Sirah or an old world vine cab.  I thought he would do something like a Staggs Leap Winery Petit Sirah or Bogle, but instead he came with one I hadn’t heard of.  It is the Nugan Estate bottle and it was really interesting.
