Easy Honey, Prosciutto & Gruyere Croissant Recipe

I had a random idea for a fun breakfast recipe that takes almost no time and is almost 100% fool proof.  It’s a honey, prosciutto & Gruyere croissant.  There are two modifications you can make to this.  The first is to add almonds for crunch which I did in this one and the second one is to add cayenne pepper powder to the honey to add some spice.  Both taste amazing and are easy to do.

To make this recipe, you will need:

Puff pastry

  • 1 egg
  • 1 tablespoon of water
  • 1 block of Gruyere cheese
  • 8 slices of prosciutto or ham or turkey
  • honey
  • sliced almonds (or toasted sliced almonds)

You want to start by pre-heating your oven to 400 degrees.  Now roll your pastry puff out so it’s held together and place it on a baking sheet.  I use a piece of parchment paper on top of the sheet.  Next pour honey onto the puff pastry.  (If you want to add the cayenne pepper powder, add it to the honey and then pour it onto the puff pastry.

Next you take the prosciutto and place it on the honey.  You’ll want to leave about 1/4 to 1/2 inch on the sides.

Now slice the Gruyere and place it on top of the prosciutto.  If you have extra, place it in the center in between the slices.  You want to make sure there’s about 1/2 inch of space in between the cheese and the edge of the puff pastry.

Next place the almonds on top of the Gruyere.

Now make an egg wash (1 egg with 1 tablespoon of water mixed together) and pain the open space in between the middle and edge with it.  Now place the top piece of pastry puff over this and then paint it with the egg wash to help it turn brown in the oven.  Now take a form or use your finger and press the edges in so that it holds together tightly in the oven.

Now bake at 400 degrees on the middle rack for about 20 minutes or until the puff pastry is fully cooked and browned.
