2009 Di Aire California Petite Sirah Reviewed

If you’ve read any of the wine reviews lately you’ll notice that I’ve left my merlot for the petite sirah.  I also recently left napa valley for a new one I found from Shenandoah Valley California called Di Arie.  I always though that Shenandoah Valley was only in Virginia and was confused to see a Petite Sirah from there, but hey, I’m not one to judge a wine until I’ve dranken it so I gave it a shot.

2009 Di Arie Petite Sirah

The Di Arie Petite Sirah was absolutely delicious.  I loved the dark color of the wine, the smells coming from the bottle and the best part is that we didn’t even have to let it breath for it to stand out.  You can drink this bottle right from the bottle, or a glass if someone else wants some.  I don’t like to share.  It’s always a bit scary to drink a new bottle, but when they turn out to be very reasonably priced (this was roughly $25 with tax) and pretty good, you find a winning bottle.

The 2009 bottle is perfect to drink alone, with a full meal that has medium to light bodied sauces and works great with pork, pastas and red sauces on chicken.  I’d avoid white sauces because it won’t balance, but if you do have something with lemons in it, it might actually work.  You’ll get lots of dark fruits and tannins in this and even a bit of espresso.  That’s why I don’t think you should count it out if lemons are a part of your meal and will stand out.

Overall I would buy the 2009 Di Arie Petite Sirah, but if there were others available to try, I would be opened to passing it up.  It is very good, but there could be more in that price range that I’ll love more.  If you haven’t tried this one yet, it’s absolutely worth buying at least once.  Both my friend and I enjoyed it.  If you’ve had this wine before, feel free to leave a comment below and let us know what you think of it as well.  Thank you again for reading!
