2009 Jasci & Marchesani Montepulciano d’Abruzzo Review

I decided to be adventurous and try a new wine the other day from a vineyard I had never heard of.  The retail price of the 2009 Jasci & Marchesani Montepulciano d’Abruzzo ‘Janu’ is around $65, but I found it for roughly $30 so I figured why not.  When you see a fine wine and it has a pretty bottle over 50% off…you go for it.  So what did we think?  Scroll below to find out.

This is a huge wine!  The taste hits you immediately and you can drink it from the first pour without any aeration.  The taste is giant, full and has a ton of chocolate…yup actual chocolate flavors not that crap that “wine experts” claim exists.  This really tastes chocolaty which I love.  Once the chocolate clears you’re left with some dark fruit flavors,,,but you want to keep drinking because of the chocolate…it’s better than dessert and still dry (not the sweet ice wine dessert wine type of wine).

I love to drink wine, not sip but take huge gulps and really enjoy it.  The one downside to this wine is that it is hard to do.  I think it was because the wine is so full and the flavor is huge that you almost have to sip it.  The only other downside is I only bought one bottle and really want more of it.  I won’t pay $65 for the bottle, but I will absolutely be scouring the web and different deal sites to find this for the $30 mark again.  It is 100% worth that (and more) and a show stopping red that will leave dinner guests wowed.

You can serve it with any type of thick red meat, especially if you’re using coffee types of flavors.  It’ll pair perfectly with a rich chocolate cake or dessert, you could even go light with a pastry cream and vanilla or doughnuts.  I’d be cautious moving into the spice cakes and other flavors that are similar.  You don’t want competition but instead have this one compliment the flavors.

If you find the 2009 Jasci & Marchesani Montepulciano d’Abruzzo “Janu” on sale or even at full price, it is absolutely worth trying.  I love this one and will absolutely buy it again.  I don’t say that about every wine, but this one is now on my must have again list.
